Barbacarlo

The enigmatic wines of Lino Maga are considered by many to be among Italy’s very best. From Oltrepò Pavese in Lombardy, sometimes called the ‘Tuscany of the North’, Maga’s family have been making wine from their hillside Barbacarlo cru since 1886.

Barbacarlo

The Barbacarlo cru, a monopole of the Maga family that they have farmed since 1886, is a steeply sloped, four hectare, south-west facing hillside plot surrounded by forest. To taste Lino Maga's wines is to be transported here, such is the honesty and transparency of the winemaking.

Montebuono

Montebuono, like the barbacarlo, has some Croatina, Uva Rara and Ughetta, but there is also a little Barbera in the mix. Reflecting the vintage, this is a richer, fuller expression, full of dark fruits, bitter herbs and firm tannins. Remarkably open in its youth, this should age beautifully over the coming years.
