Domaine de Moriers
Relatively new on the buzzy Beaujolais wine scene, Domaine de Moriers is the new brainchild of Arnaud Combier & François de Nicolay (of Chandon de Briailles in Côte de Beaune). They are based in the village of Lancié, but they have vineyards in Morgon, Fleurie & Moulin-à-Vent. The approach here is very much non-interventionist, with a total ban on chemical shortcuts: they are certified organic and soon biodynamic. The vinification is carried out in concrete vats, with gentle extractions -almost infusions- and with a high percentage of whole bunch, in order to preserve the sense of energy and purity of fruit.
Chiroubles
The average age of the vines here are 40 years old planted on soils of decomposed granite. The whole bunches are fermented with wild yeasts with half of then juice being matured in concrete and the remaining juice in 228L barrels. Ripe strawberry fruit and red cherry aromas lend to tones of rose and subtle sweet spices. Round with gentle tannins on the finish.
