adrien berlioz
Adrien Berlioz took over his family’s tiny Cellier des Cray estate in 2006 and has since turned it into one of Chignin’s sharpest Alpine voices, working a patchwork of steep slopes that cling to the foothills at around 390 metres. The 5 hectares of vines, on warm, stony gravel and pebbles over calcareous clay, are farmed organically and certified biodynamic (Demeter), an exacting choice in this marginal mountain climate. Jacquère and Roussanne (here known as Chignin Bergeron) dominate, with Mondeuse providing a counterpoint in red, each parcel handled almost as a separate cru. In the cellar, Adrien favours a restrained hand: low yields, careful pressing, indigenous yeasts and a mix of neutral vessels designed to preserve a keen cut of acidity and mineral precision that gives his Savoie wines their wonderfully chiselled, vertical profile.
la Cuvée des Gueux Blanc
The Blanc de Savoie Cuvée des Gueux is made from 100% Jacquère grapes, a variety native to the Savoie region known for its high acidity and fresh, crisp character. hand-harvest, and direct pressing in a shelter to protect it from oxidation.Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged on its fine lees for around 10 months before bottling. A refined aromatic profile—crisp green apple, white peach, and alpine herbs unfold over delicate floral notes and a touch of wet stone minerality.
Cuvée La Plumette
named for the lightness sought by Adrien Berlioz, and also the nickname given to the windswept plot where the leaves rustle like feathers. The grapes are harvested by hand and then slowly pressed to preserve the purity of the juice. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, primarily in vats and old oak casks, followed by aging on fine lees without vigorous stirring, to preserve the fruit's vibrancy. notes of fresh pear and white flowers. The palate is precise and crystalline, unfolding into a subtly saline and persistent finish.
Cuvèe Euphrasie
Euphrasie pays homage to the winemaker's great-grandmother and symbolises the transmission of traditions, patience, and respect for natural rhythms. Perched at over 400 meters altitude, planted on limestone scree and facing due south, this small plot of barely 35 ares is an exceptional Alpine terroir. Here, the old Roussanne vines yield a pure, precise wine, both ethereal and intense. pure and complex aromatic profile, well structured acidity and a long saline finish.
Cuvée Grand Zeph
The young Roussanne vines are planted on the silty and limestone slopes of the lieu-dit Les Côtes, the warmest in the area. On these crumbly, south-facing rocks , the incline can exceed 40% in places. A terroir with a strong character, which is reflected in the wine. ripe yellow fruits mingle with dried fruits, and floral notes. While the palate boasts a rich structure, with superb freshness and chalky minerality.
La Cuvée des gueux rouge
Hand-harvest, and whole bunch maceration for 10 days. Full malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The red Cuvée features a blending of Gamay and the somewhat rare Persan grape, which has less than 7 hectares grown globally. the nose is expressive with sweet accents of tonka bean, delicious notes of strawberry and minty freshness. Light on the palate, with a supple, spicy finish.
