Domaine Jessiaume

Created in 1850 by the Jessiaume family, the Domaine is now in the hands of Dr Jean-François Le Bigot. Since 2014, the domaine went through a radical transformation: minimal intervention, organic certification, and a wine making approach based on gentle extraction and of course with spontaneous fermentation and minimal filtration. This results in a wide range of elegant, terroir driven wines with an enormous ageing potential.

The ‘Maison Jessiaume’ wines are made also with grapes sourced from local growers that work with the same ethos.

Satenay Blanc 1er Cru ‘les gravières’

After direct pressing of whole grapes and settling in vats, the must is transferred directly to oak barrels, where alcoholic fermentation begins naturally. The wine is aged on the lees in the same barrels for 12 months. The nose shows a slight reduction on toasty notes, while apple and ripe lemon aromas develop. The palate is generous, with a long, elegant finish.

Satenay 1er Cru ‘les gravières’

After sorting in the vineyard and cellar, the grapes are destemmed and vatted directly. A pre-fermentation cold maceration lasts 5 days, after which spontaneous fermentation begins. Vatting lasts 3 weeks, and the wine is then aged in oak barrels. Ruby-red in color, the nose reveals notes of fresh, jammy red fruit and a hint of spice. The palate is generous, with present but silky, elegant tannins.
